I read Digger from, if I recall correctly, Skull Ridge's funeral to the end online. I loved every minute of it. There's not really much you can add, this book won a Hugo, was nominated for an Eisner... that should tell you right now just what you're dealing with. The artwork is gorgeous, the tale compelling, and the characters memorable in the extreme (To the point where I do find myself using 'Blood and shale' as a curse when annoyed). I cannot highly recommend this story enough. It is one of the best graphic novels I have ever read.

But why buy what you can get for free on it's website?

Besides supporting the artist, I would recommend this dead tree version. Not just for the extra stories that were included, they're nice, but not something that you're really missing out on, but for the details. I read Digger online the first time, I finally SAW Digger with this book. There's just something different about the flow of it, holding it in your hands with the ability to easily focus on the artwork without things being lost in the screen, or waiting for the download. It's a massive book, but well worth it.

I had first happened across this story online - as one would expect. It was so engrossing that I had read the entire archives in less than a week, realized that the archives probably wouldn't be hosted for eternity, and bought this product. I am now secure in the knowledge that, whenever I want too, I can re-read this book wherever I want.
The art is fantastic, the story is, as stated above, thought provoking and creative, and the world in which it takes place in echoes a sweet harmony of child-hood imaginings - though it's a story much more deep than that of which a child would read.

In ending this review, I say this If you haven't bought Digger yet, buy it. And, If you haven't read it yet and have stumbled across this page by accident I say this For the love of god, read it. Read it NOW.
If you've ever wanted a giant book to make you feel all the feels and possibly break your toe should it fall from your grasp and land on your foot, choose this one. Trust me, you're going to want the giant version so you don't have to worry about breaking the reverie to find the next book. The story is improved by not having to pause the reality of the Digger-verse and re-enter this reality. Just maybe don't try to build your arm muscles by reading it whilst walking around; your toes will thank you.
Super excited to get to share this with a friend, but man, the omnibus is doorstopper. I could kill someone if I dropped this on them! I prefer the original volumes.
She has awesome adventures, makes wonderful friends, solves difficult problems, curses beautifully, and is a great person to have around in a crisis. Vernon caught my son's attention with her Dragon Breath stories, and I looked to see what else she'd done. I found Digger online and plowed through the whole thing in a few days, but when I heard that it was going to print (so mad I missed out on the Kickstarter!), I had to have my own copy. Everyone else in my family has fallen in love with her, too. Thank you for bringing Digger to the world, Ms. Vernon, and I can't wait to see what else your marvelous mind comes up with!
Worth buying even if you have read the web comic. Something about being in physical book where you can cozy up with your cat on your favorite chair with it seems appropriate for a grand fantasy epic like Digger. The bonus color art and supplemental writings included are also quite nice too.

You would never know that a complete story arc wasn't hashed out yet when Ursula began writing this. It all falls into place in satisfying ways that really tug at your heart. The art style is quite unique and a delight to look at. It's as if the whole thing was illustrated by a master woodblock print maker.

Seriously. Buy it. Or Boneclaw Mother will do the thing )

The writing is spot on. The art is gorgeous. I just finished reading the omnibus and I feel so sad that I've finished it. If you haven't read this yet but are about to, I am so excited for you. You're going to love it.
Yes, it starts a little slow, but when you get to the myth backstory, you won't be able to stop! Quite an accomplishment for a story about a wombat.

The matriarchal society of the hyenas is particularly fascinating, not just for the fact that it's run by women, but because of their myths. Even more compelling is the story of Ed. When you finally get it, you'll need to take a minute to think, because it hits hard.

Connected to the hyena's female-led society, I'd like to find out when we discover that Digger is herself a female, since I didn't find out until I was reading a wikipedia article! It's never important. Digger has no romantic interests, and you get the feeling that's not just because there's no other wombats around. She's got things to do and she's going to do them and only after is she going to enjoy herself.

The webcomic itself is free online, but this print version gets you a LOT of extra text material, and even an extra comic story. A great deal, I'd say.
