Jace is the college cheerleader (gay and proud n'out) and Colt is the college quarterback (gay n' not out). Hot/loving but short-lived connection broken up by some nasty saboteur actions. Sadness. :(There is a long hiatus, both busy being successful to varied amounts, but miserable. Through some bravery and growing up, and despite additional sabotage, they get their HEA. Some themes of a bigger mystery uncovered late in story...to be pursued in later books, I assume.

Smexy scale 1-5: 3. ( detailed lengthy love scenes, sweet young guys getting it on)
Angst scale 1-5: 3 (deep feelings for both MCs over initial betrayal and breakup; also despair on Colt's part over being trapped deep in closet)
Likable MCs scale 1-5: 3(both sweeties)
Humor scale 1-5: 2 (not much, but watch for the Zombie Apocalypse reference :)
Alcoholism, drug use, really hateful anti gay father yuck hate him, one rancid anti gay bullying scene in college bar.

For me, "second chance" novels are either hit or miss. Double Full was a full out hit! Ten years ago Colt was a closeted college football phenom and Jace was the fully out hottie on the cheerleading squad when they spent several days in an island paradise together. The future looked bright and hopeful until outside forces destroyed some beautiful.
Fast forward to today and Jace has made a name for himself with his competitive cheerleading gym and Colt is a professional football star about to marry a supermodel. Circumstances cause Colt to take a serious look at his life and decide to win his true love back.
This book covers a lot and does it well. There is sweet young love, pain and deception, intrigue, blackmail, second chances, hotter than hot "steamy" scenes, witty and hilarious dialogue, and a US Marshal that I want to learn a LOT more about. This one pulled all kinds of feels out of me... sweet sighs, wanting to either smack, throat punch, or hug certain characters (sometimes at the same time), laughter, and a few tears. I can't wait to dive into the next one in the series!
Reading this book put a lot in perspective for me. Life is filled with horrible evil people or can't accept when things are out of the "normal" way of life, like being gay.
Colt hid his feelings and stalked the sexy cheer boy, Jace, until one day an opportunity came to play and he reacted before it was too late. They had a whirlwind of 5 days of bliss but little did they know it would come crashing down and Colt would be forced to let go of the one thing that made him happy.
Colt was dealt a bad hand when it came to his family. After years of regret and sadness, it takes much soul searching and growing up to realize he can get what he wants and be happy. But again another battle is thrown his way.
This book had me on a roller coaster of emotions that I didn't want to get off.
This is a book of true love and overcoming everything thrown at you. No matter if you are straight or gay you should be able to love and be loved.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and I hope Mitch has a story.
Alexander has become one of my favorite M/M romance authors. Her not only contain a fantastic romance, but they also contain a bit of mystery, action and intrigue. Double Full does not fail to deliver. Some novels start slow and build, Double Full starts with a good dose of sexual excitement and the story stays strong until the end. There is a lot of sensual hot sex between the main character's, Jace and Colt; however, the sex is not just thrown in. It serves purpose in the story. The sex between Colt and Jace, in part, creates the strong connection in their relationship. In part, their relationship grows out of the time they spend in each other's arms.
Double Full is mainly character driven. does and excellent job of helping us to get to know Jace and Colt. We understand what makes them who they are and what makes them tick. We experience Jace's good nature, his heartbreak, his dedication to his career, and eventually his dedication to Colt and his well being. He is the type of person who is proud, hard working and will give to others at the expense of himself. Colt is not the quintessential jock. He is not an ass. Colt is also strong, proud and hard working; however, because of the unhealthy people in his life and their influence over him, he makes some life changing decisions that almost ruin his life. Nevertheless, he overcomes his demons and eventually makes several healthy and positive life changing decisions that will bring him to a positive satisfying place in his life. You witness his struggle to get to this place. Another great thing about Double Full is that the main characters are "men" and remain that way throughout the story. Jace is a cheerleader; however, he is in no way feminized. Yes, they express their feelings for each other, but they don't turn into what could be a stereotype of a woman. Nevertheless, you witness Colt's journey out of the closet and the issues he has to deal with because he is a gay man and struggling to keep that a secret in order to save his career and Jace' life and reputation. When Colt begins his life as a gay man, he is like a kid making new discoveries.
Colt has many bad influences in his life. People riding his coat tail because of his money. One of those individuals is his girlfriend/fiance. During his relationship with Russian supermodel Maryia, he is at his worse emotionally and she is horrible to him. Therefore, his reactions to her are distasteful, but understandable. The reader understands his current actions because of his past. Nevertheless, he redeems himself and the reader can't help but forgive him for the mistakes he made.
Both men can't refrain from wearing their hearts on their sleeves when they are with each other. There is very little angst during the moment of their reconciliation. doesn't torture us with will they or won't they?
Another great thing about Double Full is that the book doesn't end when the couple finally says the I love you that finally brings them together forever. The story kept going in order to address a hole that would have been left if it had not been addressed. The storyline would have lost some validity if the issue with Colt's father had not played out. Even though you only see him a few times in the book, he plays a big part in Colt and Jace's life together.
Both men get their HEA and the reader is left satified; but leaves Double Full open for the second book in the series. She leaves a part of the subplot open. My guess is that she does this in order to carry it over into the second book in the series, Full Disclosure. Another guess is that the second book will include U.S. Marshal Mitch Knox. He is introduces near the end of the book. I hope this is the case.
All in all, Alexander has done a wonderful job with the creation of Jace, Colt and the world in which they live. I can't wait to see what's next.
